State police report they responded to Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, about 11:10 am on February 11, after receiving a complaint that an inmate had had assaulted a correction officer there.

State police said that after investigating, they charged inmate Jose Matos, 36, with assault on a public safety officer for allegedly having assaulted a 36-year-old male correction officer. Matos was scheduled for arraignment on the charge in Danbury Superior Court.

Matos is serving a three-year sentence in Garner on a conviction on a controlling charge of first-degree reckless endangerment.
