ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania – Gregg Burkhart, a 2001 graduate of Newtown High School, recorded his 100th career strikeout with the Muhlenberg College baseball team on its annual spring trip to Florida.

Burkhart, who ranked 26th in Division III in strikeouts per nine innings last year, is the 17th player in team history to record 100 whiffs. The milestone came in the Mules’ loss to Pitt-Bradford, but Burkhart rebounded to strike out nine more batters in a seven-inning complete game against Salve Regina to pick up his first win of the season.

Burkhart has a team-leading 16 strikeouts in 13 innings in two starts this season.

Lux Named All-NESCAC

MIDDLEBURY, Vermont – Tim Lux of Sandy Hook, a freshman at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, was named to the NESCAC All-Conference swim team for his work in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 medley relay and 400 medley rely.

Lux swam a 2:07 in the 200 breaststroke at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships and earned an invitation to the NCAA championships in St. Louis, Missouri this weekend.

In just one season, Lux has set one team record (200 breast) and shares in another (400 medley relay). His 100 breast time of 58.67 is ranked 29th in the country while his 200 breast time of 2:07.02 is ranked 19th in the country.

Meanwhile, the 200 medley and 400 medley relays teams in which he participates are ranked 14th and 11th in the country, respectively.

NOTE: Typically, the NCAA accepts the top 11 or 12 relays and the top 18 or 19 individuals in each event.
