ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Woohooo! The first concert announcement from the Meadows for its summer season
and this one's a whopper! JIMMY BUFFET tickets will be going on sale this
Saturday (March 21) for a concert in Hartford on Tuesday, August 25.
I think the weather is getting warmer already!
Having just finished a three-month trek of sold out concerts throughout
Europe, THE DEFTONES will be returning to the United States next month to
continue supporting Around The Fur . Constant legwork on the World
Annihiliation Tour has helped support the album, which has sold over 200,000
copies in the US since its release in October 1997.
The Deftones, who Spin magazine calls "the sensitive guy's metalheads," will
be at The Webster Theatre in Hartford on April 21. Actually, I'm looking at
the band's concert schedule, and of the 30 days in the month of April, the
Deftones are playing 23 of those nights.
The readers of Guitar Player magazine, a reader out of Britain, have voted
ADRIAN LEGG Best Fingerstylist for four years running. The same readers also
named Legg the Guitarist of the Decade.
It's always good news to hear this excellent entertainer is coming to the
area, and I have good news to share this week. Legg will be returning to the
Towne Crier in Pawling, NY, on Friday, April 3. I say entertainer, rather than
just "guitarist" or "musician," because Legg really is a well-rounded
entertainer. He provides plenty of laughs with his deadpan humor, and he
constantly amazes with the work he does on any guitar he picks up. I saw Legg
a few years ago at The Crier, and his show was phenomenal.
Seating is pretty limited up there, so you may want to reserve a seat in
advance. The Crier is right on Route 22, a few miles from the state line. I
don't have ticket prices for you (nor whether there is an opener or not), but
if you want to call the Crier, the phone number is 914/855-1300. Showtime will
be 7 pm.
radio 104 will be holding another Earth Day in the Park concert this year at
Bushnell Park in Hartford. On Sunday, April 19, this year's free concert will
feature, among others, LETTERS TO CLEO, THE SPECIALS and SUPERDRAG. The park
is pretty impossible to miss; take the Capitol Avenue exit off I-84 and follow
the traffic. You'll see the park from the ramp.
One word of advice: If it has been raining at any point in the previous 24
hours preceding the concert, be sure to wear weatherproof boots to the show.
Last year's concert, with BARENAKED LADIES, was great fun, but with the
thousands of people who turn out for this event, the ground pretty quickly
becomes very messy. Don't go up there wearing the open-toe sandals (or the
brand-new Keds) unless you want to come home with enough mud between your toes
to plant a garden with.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
