ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
As of late last week, tickets for one of the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND shows at the
Meadows had finally sold out, but tickets were still available for the band's
second show in Hartford. A few tickets are still available for Friday, August
6. Lawn seats, which is all that remains, are $32 and can be purchased through
any Pro-Tix outlet or charged by calling 860/422-0000. The tickets for the
Saturday, August 7, show are the ones that are all gone.
Additional news concerning Meadows events includes the announcement from TOMMY
LEE last week that he will not be touring with MOTLEY CRUE this summer. That
includes, of course, the stop the band has on July 3 co-headlining with THE
SCORPIONS.
For the August 1 BARENAKED LADIES SHOW, The Beautiful South will be playing
the opening set.
The Newtown band MIND TYDES has another performance at Toad's Place coming up
this weekend. The band will be playing an opening set on Sunday, May 16, as
will The Pete Scheips Band. Both bands are opening for MERL SAUNDERS & THE
RAINFOREST. The show is open to all ages.
Laszlo's sent late notice last week of a just-added jazz performance this
coming Monday. On May 17 at 8 pm, SCOTT SHERWOOD, PAUL HANNAH and MIKE NUNNO
will be performing. The cafe is at 179 Main Street in Monroe. Details, call
Laszlo's at 459-8889.
Also in the flavor of local rock bands news, MOPPIN SAUCE has some new dates
to let its fans know about. The band will be at Classic Rock Brew Pub in
Danbury next Friday (May 21), Fat Day's in Watertown on June 5, TK's in New
Haven on June 12, and Shennanigan's in Norwalk on July 2.
One of the biggest glam bands of the Eighties, DURAN DURAN will be at Foxwoods
Resort Casino on August 13. That's the night following a PAT BENATAR concert.
Tickets are still available for both shows, call 800/200-2882 for details.
In the event you missed the announcement elsewhere in the paper this week,
Ives Concert Park began to announce its summer schedule this week. Among the
headlining shows that fit into "On the Road"'s vein will be THE BEACH BOYS on
July 18 and BRUCE HORNSBY on August 21. Also performing at the outdoor theatre
on the westside campus of Western CT State University this summer will be
DONNA SUMMER, July 24; HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS, July 31; LYLE LOVETT, August 1;
and ANNE MURRAY, September 4. Tickets for all of these shows will be available
as of Saturday morning through all TicketMaster outlets. All shows carry
ticket prices of $35 for reserved seats, $22 for lawn seats, and $7 for
children age 12 and under. And except for the Hornsby show, each of these
concerts also offer Gold Circle seating for $50 each. The local TicketMaster
number is 744-8100, or contact Ives Park's box office at 837-9226.
Two days before their third full-length album is released, MUSTARD PLUG will
be playing at The Tune Inn in New Haven. The band will no doubt be playing a
lot of its new music, as well as stuff from the 1993 debut album, Big Daddy
Multitude , as well as the 1997 follow-up Evildoers Beware . The
self-proclaimed "ska-punk demi gods" will be in New Haven on Friday, May 14,
which will actually be a warm-up a full tour that starts on March 26.
Oh, and the new album is called Pray For Mojo . Nearly forgot to mention that.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
