William Andras, Sr

William Andras, Sr, of Newtown died March 17 in Danbury Hospital.

Mr Andras was the husband of Ann Miterko Andras.

Born in Granville, N.Y., he was a Newtown resident for 45 years and owned the

Monroe Upholstery Shop and Country Gifts and Furniture in Newtown.

Before World War II, he worked in his family's slate quarry in Granville.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a radioman on an LST in the

Pacific, including the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Iwo Jima

Survivors of Connecticut.

Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by a son, Bill Andras, and

daughter-in-law, Janice; a granddaughter, Amy Beth, and two grandsons, Dave

and Paul, all of Newtown; two sisters, Mary West of Georgia and Ann Hrebin of

North Carolina; a brother George Andras of Florida.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, John and Michael Andras, and a sister,

Susan Andras.

Calling hours at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford,

will be from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, March 19.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 20, at 8:15 am in the funeral home and

at 9 am in St John the Baptist Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport.

Interment with full military honors will be in St John's Cemetery, Stratford.

Dorothy Clarkson

Dorothy Frank Clarkson, 78, of Bridgeport, formerly of the Danbury and Newtown

area, died March 16 at St Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport.

Mrs Clarkson was the widow of William H. Clarkson.

Born in New London, Mrs Clarkson attended Danbury State Teachers College (now

called Western Connecticut State University). She lived in Bridgeport for many

years.

She is survived by three sons, Raymond Clarkson of Stratford, Albert Clarkson

of West Haven, and Lawrence Clarkson of Scranton, Pa.; three daughters, Dianne

Parker of Easton, Patricia Musbek of Stratford, and Mary Lou Mastronardi of

Bridgeport; a companion, Pedro Mercardo of Bridgeport; 14 grandchildren, 10

great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 19, from 4 to 8 pm at the Louis Abriola

& Son Funeral Home, 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 20, from 9 am at the funeral home to a

10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St Ambrose Church. Burial in St Michael

Cemetery, Stratford.

William C. Gerry

William C. Gerry, 80, father of Ellen Whalen of Newtown, died March 16 at the

home of his daughter.

He was a resident of Cornwall Bridge and formerly of Weston, Conn., and Ft

Lauderdale, Fla.

Born in Bridgeport on April 2, 1917, he was the son of the late Clarence and

Hilda (McGrath) Gerry. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Lassen) Gerry.

He was employed as a gauge maker for American Chain & Cable Co.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army in the European Theater and

received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the line of duty. He was a

member of the Westport Post VFW.

Besides his daughter, Ellen, and son-in-law, George Whalen, he is survived by

another daughter, Laura Gerry of Cornwall Bridge; a brother, John "Buck" Gerry

of Devon; two sisters, Dorothy Maguire of Nichols and Julia "Pat" Berger of

Stratford; one granddaughter, Meghan Rice of New York City and South Norwalk;

three grandsons, James Whalen of Dallas, Tex., Murphy Whalen of New York and

Peter Whalen of Hyde Park N.Y.; also one great-granddaughter.

Friends may call Thursday, March 19, from 5 to 9 pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58

Main Street, Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, at 10 am at

St Rose Church. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Westport.

Kenneth B. Hall

Kenneth Bartley Hall, 45, a former area resident, died March 14 in Naples,

Fla.

Born in Monroe on July 27, 1953, he was a son of Lucille W. Stratton of

Roxbury, and Naples, Fla., and the late Bartley E. Hall.

He was educated in schools in Monroe and Newtown. He also attended the

Cheshire Academy, the Forman School, and Nathaniel Hawthorne College.

Mr Hall had lived and worked in Florida for the past several years.

Besides his mother, Mr Hall is survived by a daughter, Tara Lucille Hall of

Oxford; and two sisters, Evelyn H. Brenton of Oxford and Susan H. Levy of East

Granby.

Contributions in Mr Hall's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Private services will take place in Connecticut in the spring.

George D. McKinnon

George D. McKinnon, 75, of Sylacauga, Ala., died March 12, at his home. He was

the uncle of Nan Morrow of Newtown.

Mr McKinnon served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He graduated

from the University of Alabama with a degree in chemical engineering in 1949,

and was assistant plant manager of Beaunit Fibers.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sylacauga.

Survivors also include a nephew, Joe Wooten of Albertville, Ala.

Services were held March 15 in Alabama at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the

Rev Keith Pugh officiating. Burial was in Marble City Cemetery.

Phillipe J. Rodrigues

Phillipe J. Rodrigues, 19, of Bethel, died March 13 in New Milford.

He was born in Bridgeport on January 30, 1979, a son of Agostinho C. Rodrigues

of Southbury and Ruth V. Galhardo of Bethel.

He attended Newtown High School for one year and graduated from the Henry

Abbott Technical School in Danbury.

Mr Rodrigues attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Danbury and was a member

of Trinity Church in Newtown.

He was a member of the Newtown Travel Soccer Team and enjoyed BMX cycle

racing.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs

Joao C. Rodrigues of Ponte DeLima, Portugal; his maternal grandparents, Mr and

Mrs Angel Medina Savana Grande, Puerto Rico; two sisters, Lucinda Hotchkiss of

New Milford and Elisa Maria Rodrigues of Danbury; a stepbrother, Antonio

Galhardo of Portugal; a stepsister, Anna F. Galhardo of Portugal; and several

nephews, nieces, uncles, and cousins.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Hanahoe Clinic, Main Street,

Danbury 06810.

Services were March 18 at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street,

Danbury. Burial arrangements will be announced.

Stanley B. Nichols

Stanley B. Nichols, 80, father of Eleanor Nichols of Newtown, died March 10 in

Vencor Hospital, San Leandro, Calif.

Mr Nichols had lived in California since 1964.

He was born in Easton, Conn., March 8, 1918, a son of William and Abby King

Nichols. He was raised and educated in Easton.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army.

Besides his daughter, Eleanor, he is survived by two sons, Raymond Nichols of

West Hartford and David Nichols of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; another daughter,

Elizabeth Barnes of Monroe; a brother, Horace Nichols of Fairfield; a sister,

Grace Parsons of Bethel; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, March 21, at the Honan Funeral

Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Raymond J. Brennan

Raymond J. Brennan, 92, a retired machine operator and a ballroom dancer until

the age of 91, died March 14 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr Brennan, of 156 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown, was the husband of Elsie

Eichhorn Brennan. He had lived in Newtown for the past 27 years.

He was born in Danbury on February 3, 1906, a son of Joseph and Ann Brennan.

Before his retirement, he was employed by the Harvey Hubbell Company of

Newtown. In his earlier years, Mr Brennan worked in Danbury in the hatting

industry.

He loved to travel and until a year ago enjoyed ballroom dancing in Waterbury.

He was a member of the Arion Singing Society.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Duckworth of Newtown and

James Duckworth of Phoenix, Ariz.; a niece, Diane Platt of Southbury; and

several grandchildren.

Services were March 18 from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, to a Mass

of Christian Burial at St Rose Church. Burial was in St Rose Cemetery.

Lillian L. Saunders

Lillian L. Sorenson Turzer Saunders, 76, died March 14 at her home in Newtown.

Mrs Saunders was the wife of the late William A. Saunders. She was also

predeceased by her first husband, William F. Turzer.

She was born in Skeeby, Denmark, on November 22, 1921, a daughter of Hans

Peter and Louis K. Jensen Sorenson.

Mrs Saunders was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Post No

202 Women's Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of the First

Presbyterian Church of Stamford, where she formerly lived.

Survivors include a son, Peter R. Turzer of Trumbull; a daughter, Lana L.

Turzer of Newtown; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was

predeceased by a son, William J. Turzer.

Post Road East, Westport, Conn. 06880.

Services were held March 18 at the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford. Burial

in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, was in

charge of arrangements.

Annetta L. Fagan

Annetta L. Fagan, 91, mother of Annette F. Vickery of Newtown, died March 13,

at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Conn.

She was the wife of the late Clement J. Fagan and had lived in Pomfret Center.

Mrs Fagan was born in New York, N.Y., a daughter of Henry J. and Annetta L.

Harney Keena.

Besides her daughter, Mrs Fagan is survived by another daughter, Nancy Shaw of

Pomfret Center, with whom she made her home; nine grandchildren; 12

great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 16 at St Mary's Church,

Norwalk. Burial is in St Mary's Cemetery, Norwalk.

Manger Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk, was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel G. Presnell

Daniel G. "Dan" Presnell, 57, brother of Frank Presnell of Newtown, died March

4 at Bristol Nursing Home, Tenn.

He had moved back to Blountville from Albany, N.Y., in 1993. He was a chef at

Mothers Restaurant.

Mr Presnell was a US Navy veteran and served in the Vietnam War.

Besides his brother, Frank, he is survived by a son, Daniel Lee Presnell of

Bristol, Tenn.; two other brothers, Tom Presnell of Johnson City, Tenn., and

Paul Presnell of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Edith Jones of Cheshire,

Conn., and Faye Miles of Southbury; a grandson, Dylan Presnell; and several

nieces and nephews.

Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

Vera S. Morse

Vera S. Morse, 82, sister of Barbara Finnell of Newtown, died March 17 in the

Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn.

Formerly of Westport, she was the wife of the late Stephen K. Morse.

She was born in Derby, September 24, 1915, daughter of the late William and

Olga (Romberg) Shaughnessey.

Mrs Morse was a registered nurse. She worked at the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing

Home in New York City and also worked as a private duty nurse. She was a 1936

graduate of the St Vincent Hospital Nursing School.

Mrs Morse owned and operated the Stiles Shop in Thompson for several years,

she also owned the Clippership Bookstore in Essex.

She was a member of the Thompson Hill Garden Club. She was a volunteer for

several years at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam and for the Red Cross in

Westport.

Besides her sister, Barbara, she is survived by two sons, Christopher and

Stephen Morse, both of New York City; a daughter, Kit Morse of Framingham,

Mass.; a brother, William Shaughnessey of Brookfield; another sister, Margo

Finnell of Fairfield; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 20, at 11 am in

the Most Holy Trinity Church, Route 169, Pomfret. Burial will be in Center

Cemetery, Woodstock.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 19, from 7 to 9 pm in the Smith and Walker

Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Thompson Hill

Fire Department, Thompson, Conn. 06277.

Michael J. Piskura

Michael J. Piskura, 85, a lifelong Newtown resident and retired dairy farmer,

died March 16 at Mediplex of Danbury.

Mr Piskura of Pond Brook Road in Newtown was the husband of Beatrice Banks

Piskura.

He was born in Newtown on July 10, 1912, a son of the late Frank and Julia

Felisko Piskura.

Before his retirement, Mr Piskura operated a dairy farm in Newtown.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marleen Morneault of

Newtown and Kathleen Midolo of Litchfield; three brothers, Frank Piskura of

Newtown, Martin Piskura of Bethel, and Andrew Piskura of Roxbury; three

sisters, Helen Wanzyk and Jennie Piskura, both of Danbury, and Mary Piskura of

Southbury; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were March 19 at the Honan Funeral Home, followed by a Mass

of Christian Burial at St Rose Church. Burial is in St Rose Cemetery.
