MIDDLETOWN – Stefan Toi and Anthony Fiore led the Newtown High School swim team when the CIAC Class L state championships opened on Wednesday at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

Toi is seeded second in the championship heat of the 200 individual medley while Fiore is seeded second in the championship heat of the 100 backstroke following trials last week at Yale. In other events –

The 200 medley relay team is seeded sixth; Alex Kron is seeded sixth in the championship heat of the 200 freestyle and first in the third heat of the 500 freestyle; Wes Hood is seeded second in the first heat of the 200 freestyle and seeded sixth in the second heat of the 100 backstroke; Luke Fiore is seeded fifth in the second heat of the 50 freestyle and first in the third heat of the 100 freestyle; Toi is seeded second in the third heat of the 100 butterfly while Nick Maurer is seeded first in the second heat and Matt Iassogna is seeded first in the first heat; Kevin Herring is seeded second in the first heat of the 100 freestyle; the 200 freestyle relay team is seeded second in the second heat; Allen Hubbard is seeded fifth in the third heat of the 100 breaststroke; and the 400 freestyle relay team is seeded second in the championship heat.
