Head Oâ Meadow

A couple of weeks ago, two senior high school classes visited Head Oâ Meadow Elementary School to work on a project with fourth and fifth graders. In April, Ruby Bridges will be visiting Head Oâ Meadow. Mr Cruz and Mrs Aschauer decided to do a project based on civil rights. They contacted two teachers from the high school and arranged for all four classes to meet. This was the start of a great project.
Mr Cruzâs 5th graders are working with Mrs Zamudaâs civics class on projects based on the civil rights acts and its leaders. Mr Cruz and Mrs Zamuda paired up each otherâs students, and gave everyone an event or person that dealt with civil rights. Most kids thought that this was a marvelous project.
Here are some of the 5th gradersâ opinions on the project: Thomas Hutchinson had to research the civil rights act of 1964. He thought it was hard to find facts about this topic. Another student had John F. Kennedy and although the project was fun for her, certain facts were hard to find. One other student researched the civil rights act of 1957 and found this project fun and entertaining except it was difficult to find facts and pictures.
Some of Ms Zamudaâs students include Alicia, Jessie, Lily, Brad, and Cassie. All of them are enjoying the project so far.
