Freeston Steps Down From Finance Board

Board of Finance member Kenneth Freeston submitted his resignation from the board last week.

In notifying Town Clerk Cindy Simon of his decision to leave the board, he noted that he had missed important votes on the board because of “a sustained bout of pneumonia from late winter into spring, and subsequently due to the increasing demands of my responsibilities of the three boards of education for whom I work.” Mr Freeston is superintendent of schools in Region 9, serving Easton and Redding.

“I am very impressed with the commitment and vision demonstrated by the Board of Finance members,” he wrote in his letter of resignation. “Newtown’s finances are in the hands of people who are both fiscally responsible and caring, sensitive individuals. The town is fortunate to have their leadership.”
