HARTFORD â The Antiquarian & Landmarks Society will open its doors of properties across the state this month for a season of tours and a diverse roster of special programming designed to reach a variety of audiences, including school and community groups, families and adults.
The society owns 12 significant historic Connecticut properties, nine of which are operated as historic house museums: The Amasa Day House in Moodus, The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem, The Butler-McCook House & Garden and the Main Street History Center in Hartford, The Buttolph-Williams House in Wethersfield, Hempsted Houses in New London, The Isham-Terry House in Hartford, The Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry, and The Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden in Suffield. The Antiquarian & Landmarks main office is at 255 Main Street in Hartford.
Regular tours will begin the week of May 5. Admission for regular tours at each museum is $7 for adults, $6 for students with ID and seniors (age 65 plus), $4 for children age 6-18 and A&L members, and free for ages 5 and under.
A new package this year is a family-pack for a group consisting of two adults with children for $15. A group rate of $5 per person is available for pre-booked groups of ten or more. Tours and site/curriculum-specific educational programs for school groups are $5 per student and include one hands-on activity; additional activities may be added for an additional $4 per child. The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden will host its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 5, from 10 am until 4 pm. The sale includes perennials, shrubs and trees propagated from the historic plants in the circa 1915 garden. Professional horticultural staff will be on hand to help with selections.
Also on May 5, the property will be the location for a Spring Into The Garden Celebration from 1 to 4 pm. Party admission is $5 for adults, free for children. The celebration will feature music, dancing, crafts and landscape walks to celebrate the blooming of the garden and the opening of the museum.The property is at 9 Main Street North; call 203-266-7596.
