Earth Art For Kids

WOODBURY – For two more months, Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust is offering a program for children ages 5 through 10 called “Earth Art for Kids.”

The series runs from 10 am until noon on the second Saturday of each month, and are designed to help children develop drawing and painting skills while developing a lifelong love of art and nature in the bountiful setting of the Van Vleck Farm Sanctuary in Woodbury.

Building upon natural curiosity, students will learn about local wildlife and habitats while hiking and exploring the forest, fields, marsh area, ponds and farm at Flanders. These explorations will create an excellent opportunity for children to discover that nature is full of surprises as they search for insects, reptiles, birds, amphibians and mammals.

As part of their artist experience, students can enjoy their creative expression, energies and thoughts as they experiment with varied art media, both wet and dry. There will be lots of activities, and participants should be prepared to “dress for a mess.”

“Earth Art for Kids” will be held on May 12 and June 9. The fee for each program is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. As space is limited; registration and advance payment by mail or in person are required. Mail payment and date(s) interested to Flanders Earth Art for Kids, PO Box 702, Woodbury CT 06798.  The office is located at the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Roads.

Flanders invites all budding artists to an adventure connecting art, nature and science. For other upcoming events and activities, visit FlandersNatureCenter.org.
