Youth Sunday At Congregational Church

The young people of the Newtown Congregational Church presided over the entire worship service Sunday, from prelude to benediction. Violinist Morgan Eve Swain mesmerized the congregation with her prelude solo and “Catharsis,” the benediction response.

Renee Whippie presided over the Call to Worship and Robin Collins talked about the Compassion Child Program that allows volunteers to sponsor children in need from around the world.

“A Gathering” presented the Children’s Message, “Yahweh,” in word, song, and instrumental accompaniment, led by Carl Lindquist. Sacred dancers Katie Rose Crevier and Karla Spencer added to the rousing and spirited worship.

Kristin Ryan was soloist, singing “Children of Eve,” with Tim Cordoso on drums, Tim Gordon and Tucker Smiley on guitars, and Miss Swain on violin, for the anthem. The number was joyfully applauded by the congregation.

Tanya Whippie gave the Pastoral Prayer and Steve Truitt gave the offering invitation. Flautist Andrea Reinhardt played “Sweet Modale,” accompanied by Phil Crevier on the piano during the offering. Again, there was great applause. Casey Palmer gave the prayer of dedication.

Tim Robinson and Mark Walrath read the scriptures and Kara Kunst and Travis Finlayson gave the sermon, “Reflections and Projections.” Mr Finlayson gave a tribute to his mother that brought tears to many of the mothers present and Miss Kunst spoke with great feeling, saying Jesus Christ was everyone’s best friend. Mr Truitt gave the benediction, “Old Irish Blessing,” before Miss Swain dazzled everyone with her benediction response.
