Republican Caucus To Elect Delegates

Newtown Republicans will hold a caucus on Monday, March 29, at 7:30 pm at the Senior Center to elect delegates to the various state delegations, which will take place in May.

“We urge all registered Republicans to attend because these delegates will be nominating candidates for the Fifth District, the 28th State Senatorial District, and the 112th State Assembly District,” said Carol Recht, Republican Town Committee chairman.

Congresswoman Nancy Johnson, State Senator John McKinney, and State Representative DebraLee Hovey now hold those seats. The entire caucus will vote for the candidate for the 106th State Assembly District, now held by State Representative Julia Wasserman, as that district involves Newtown only.

Newtown has been allotted 13 delegates for the Congressional Convention, 13 for the State Senate Convention, and 13 for the State Assembly Convention. The following have volunteered to serve as delegates: Bill Brimmer, Owen Carney, Joe DiCandido, Bob Hall, Barbara O’Connor, Amy Mangold, Carol Recht, Moira Rodgers, Will Rodgers, Mae Schmidle, Jim Smith, Marie Smith, Lillian Strickler, Marie Sturdevant, Julia Wasserman, and Laurie Wrabel.
