SPECTACULAR GLASS TO THE PUBLIC
OLD GREENWICH, CONN. â The Westchester Glass Club is proud to sponsor its 31st Annual Collectors Glass Show and Sale. Sixty dealers will converge on the Greenwich Civic Center in Old Greenwich.
Fine glass of all periods, from early blown to studio art glass will be offered for sale. There will be brilliant cut glass, pressed glass, early blown, mold blown, engraved glass and European art glass. Much of it will be in color. Virtually all of last yearâs dealers will be returning. Dealers will be coming from 15 states.
This year there will be a book review given by Stephen Koob, Conservator of Glass at the Corning Museum of Glass. His new book, Conservation and Care of Glass Objects, will be available at the show and he will autograph copies. A presentation given by Koob will be at 2 pm on Saturday and 9 am on Sunday.
Koob has been the conservator since 1998. He received his MA in classical archeology from Indiana University in 1976 and a BS in archeological conservation and materials science from the Institute of Archeology, University of London in 1980. Koob spent five years as a conservator of the AGORA excavations in Athens, Greece, and 12 years as a conservator specializing in ceramics and glass at the Freer Gallery of Art and the Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C. In the summers he continues fieldwork and teaches and supervises conservation interns at the site of âSaamothraceâ in Northern Greece.
Joan E Kaiser co-author The Glass Industry in Sandwich will be on hand to autograph her books and answer any questions.
Art and Kathy Green will be showing early blown and pressed glass from England and America. Ian Simmonds, Dottie and Cutoâs, J Gary Stradling, Alan Disque, Harmony Barn, Virginia Renschen, Millers Antiques and Collectables and Helen Goldberg will all be showing early glass. Donna Almon and Bob French will have early glass some of which will be in color. Betsy Hewlett and Lil Bud will have a large variety of American pattern glass.
Peter Blank will have a large variety of pattern goblets. Iris Cottage, RFD Antiques and Betsy Hewlett all carry early patterns. Dan Read from Rhode Island and Arthur Reed from Andes, N.Y., will have contemporary blown glass. Glass of the Victorian era will be displayed by Glimmer Glass, C&J Antiques and Lewis and Allen.
American and English Victorian glass will be at the booth of Nosegay Antiques. Philip Liverant will also have blown and pressed glass of the Victorian era. Grace Schulps from New York will have fine glass of all periods. Green Valley Auctions will be there with information on their up-coming glass auction in May.
A display of art glass can be seen at the booth of Elvid Antiques Gallery, Brookside Antiques, KPM Arts and Antiques, Vincent Rocco and Knute Peterson.Â
Margarita from Rhode Island will have a unique line of handmade jewelry using shards of antique glass. Popular Depression glass will be shown by Diane Sewal and Timeless Treasurers while Hawks Perch will be displaying elegant Depression glass.
Antique and collectable glass of all periods can be found at the booths of Carlese Westock, Harold Tither III, Bob Sears, Sheriffâs Garrett, Splendor in the Glass and Richard Harris. Lessigâs Pleasant Valley Antiques will have a good variety of pattern and Victorian glass.
The Cutters Wheel will bring American brilliant cut and engraved glass, and Doorway to Glass will have cut glass by Dorflinger and Locke. Grace Guido will have glass that has political and historic events in the pattern. Jim Megura and Phillip Cortina will have flasks and bottles in their display. Lee Ann Wilson will show open salts and toy glass.Â
Early American pattern glass will be shown by Roger Kelso and The Ahlfelds. N JDE Trading and Philip Chasen will have fine art glass as will The Attic Mouse.
Early American blown and pressed glass will be available from Jeff and Holly Noordsy and John Watson. R&A Antiques will have a general line of fine glass as will Matt Bie. La Vaerrierie dâArt specializes in European art glass.
Luncheon and afternoon tea is available on premises. Free parking is available across the street from the Greenwich Civic Center. Regular show hours are Saturday, April 21, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, April 22, 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is $7 or $6 when accompanied by a show card or an advertisement and includes attendance to the presentation.
