Police Chief To Be Sworn In Sunday

James E. Lysaght, Jr, 47, is scheduled to be sworn into office as the town's
new police chief in ceremonies Sunday. He will take command of the of the
town's 36-member police department Monday.
The town has had two temporary chiefs of police for the past 16 weeks since
former chief Michael DeJoseph left town in late March to take a management
post with the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Virginia.
Lieutenant Owen Carney, head of the police department's special investigations
unit, has served as acting chief since June 13.
Lt Carney became the acting chief when Captain Michael Fekete, who had been
serving as acting chief since Mr DeJoseph's departure on March 22, went on
medical leave for knee surgery.
Mr Lysaght will be sworn in in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45
Main Street. The event is open to the public. A reception for the new chief
will be held there from 1 to 3 pm. The swearing-in ceremonies are expected to
take place at about 2 pm.

Before his appointment as Newtown's police chief, Mr Lysaght served as a
captain and the second-in-command at the Bristol Police Department.
Mr Lysaght has visited Newtown in recent weeks, meeting with town officials in
preparation to become the town's top law enforcment official.
Mr Lysaght was one of five finalists for the police chief's post. The Police
Commission reviewed 118 resumes in seeking a new chief.
In his capacity as a captain in Bristol, Mr Lysaght served as
second-in-command in that police department, functioning as the deputy chief.
He worked in the Bristol department for the past 24 years.
Mr Lysaght has been married to Linda Lorenson Lysaght for 19 years. He is
active in youth sports and scouting.
Until Mr Lysaght and his family relocate from Bristol to Newtown, he will be
commuting to work in Newtown.
