with cuts: Science Fair Brings The Rain Forest To Newtown
Volcanos erupted, lizards slithered, pennies shone, and white carnations
turned blue. It was all part of the dazzling array of experiments displayed by
K-6 graders at the Newtown Junior Women's Club Discovery Science Fair, held
March 22 at Newtown High School.
Each participant demonstrated and explained his project to those who attended
the non-competitive fair, and each received a ribbon of recognition.
"Tropical Rain Forests" was the topic of the final presentation given by Judy
Mitzbe of Wonder on Wheels. The program allowed the audience to view and learn
about live rain forest animals, tropical plants, and products from the rain
forests of the world.
Students from private and public schools participated in the annual event, as
did home-schooled children. Some children, like Lindsey Green and Sarah
Harmony, both 7, joined together on a project. The girls' display, on
reptiles, featured Izzy the Lizard.
