Some of Charles Schultzâs Peanuts gang will be at the Newtown Middle School this weekend thanks to members of the Newtown High School Drama Club who will be performing, âYouâre a Good Man Charlie Brownâ in three performances.
The six-member cast will bring to life Charlie Brown (Pat Curran), Snoopy (Travis Finlayson), Lucy (Erin Zaruba), Linus (Chris Lyddy), Peppermint Patty (Lindsay Kaye), and Schroeder (Mike Sobo) under the direction of Ann McNulty Ferraro. The Drama Club decided to perform a second musical instead of the usual cabaret.
âEvery year we do a cabaret. Weâve had a lot of talent shows this year,â Mrs Ferraro said. âWe kind of decided to do Charlie Brown instead. Itâs a cast of mostly seniors.â
This musical is much lighter than the early spring musical of âMan of La Mancha.â âYouâre a Good Man Charlie Brownâ is funny, entertaining and a great weekend outing for the entire family both young and old.
âIt couldnât be any more different. Itâs about being five-years-old and looking at the world through the eyes of a child,â Mrs Ferraro said. âItâs a nice play to pay tribute to Charles Schulz.â
Peppermint Patty, played by Lindsay Kaye, thinks people looking for a fun thing to do over the Memorial Day weekend should stop by and check out the show.
âItâs a fun show that anyone can like,â she said. âItâs a good production.â
Erin Zaruba as Lucy was eager to perform in a second musical this year since she is a senior and heading off to college to study theater.
âTheater is what I love to do and Iâm going into it. You learn from every production you do,â Erin said. âItâs hysterical. Little kids will love it. Adults will love it. Teenagers will love it. Itâs really a family show.â
The entire cast is thrilled to be able to provide the Newtown community with another opportunity for entertainment.
âItâs an incredible family show. Itâs a show everyone of all ages will enjoy,â Pat Curran said. âThe cast feels so lucky to be able to perform a second musical this year. Thanks to our director Ann Ferraro.â
âYouâre a Good Man Charlie Brown,â will be held at Newtown Middle School on May 25 at 7 pm and May 26 at 2 and 7 pm. Tickets are $10 adult/$6 student & seniors/$4 for children under six. Tickets can be purchased at the door before the show.
