N. Joseph Lombardi, 86, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, died peacefully at Maplewood Assisted Living in Newtown, September 26, surrounded by his family. Born in Danbury, July 7, 1926, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Sabo Lombardi.
Survivors include his three daughters, Joanne Varga, and her husband Tibor, of Newtown, Barbara Lombardi of Danbury, and Susan J. Clarkson, and her husband Buddy, of Bethel; his loving grandchildren Gary Michael, Jr, Alyssa Michael, Lauren Falcone, Sarah DeWick, Amy Radwanski, and Nicholas, Zachary, and Taylor Varga; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara J. Guardino.
At the age of 17, Mr Lombardi joined the US Navy and served for two years as a tail gunner, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross during World War II.
He worked at his uncleâs insurance agency, then as a clerk for the Danbury Post Office. He was a WLAD and WICC radio personality, as well as a business manager in the entertainment industry, from which he shared many stores about all the celebrities he met. Before his retirement, he worked for Brescome Barton Distributors for more than 25 years.
Mr Lombardi was a member of the Newtown Country Club, the former Danbury Club, the Catholic War Veterans, and a volunteer at Danbury Hospital. He was the happiest when spending time with his family, and will always be remembered by all for his smile, sense of humor, style, and good looks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 29, at 10:30 am, at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There are no calling hours.
