P&Z Approves Architectural Changes For Walnut Tree Condos
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) has approved some architectural
design changes requested by Walnut Tree Developers for the condominium units
remaining to be built at Walnut Tree Village in Sandy Hook.
P&Z members approved the roofline design changes without opposition at a May 1
session.
The developers requested the changes to improve the complex's aesthetics and
to solve some practical problems at the 26 Walnut Tree Hill Road facility.
So far, about 35 of the 80 condo units have been constructed.
In a discussion before the P&Z voted on the requested changes, P&Z member
Daniel Fogliano said the planned condo buildings should have three cupolas
atop them like the buildings which have already been built, not the one cupola
requested by the developers. Keeping three cupolas atop each building would
maintain a unified look at the complex, he said.
But P&Z member Thomas Paisley pointed out that three cupolas atop one building
are a lot of cupolas.
Voting in favor of the requested design changes were P&Z Chairman Stephen
Koch, Mr Fogliano, and James Boylan.
Because the developers hold a special exception to the zoning regulations to
build multifamily housing in an EH-10 zone, any requested amendment to that
special exception is subject to a public hearing and P&Z action.
