Auditions Scheduled For Musicals At Richterâs 20th Season; Behind-The-Scenes Help Also Needed

DANBURY â Musicals at Richter has scheduled auditions for the three musicals it will be presenting this summer, and childrenâs auditions for the musicals and for its childrenâs production company. The theater has also announced openings for behind-the-scenes and front-of-house volunteer work.

The theater is celebrating its 20th season this year, making it the longest-running outdoor theater in southwestern Connecticut.

Auditions for high school, college and adult performers will be held April 1-4 at Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road. A separate childrenâs audition will be held for young performers on April 3.

The mainstage musical season will feature the Jerry Herman blockbuster Hello, Dolly! June 17 to July 3; State Fair, July 8-24; and Annie, July 29 to August 14.

Fairy Tale Theater, a popular childrenâs theater series by and for young people, will continue Saturday mornings in July under the direction of Elyse Jasensky of Danbury. Â Shows for the 2004 season include hour-long adaptations of The Velveteen Rabbit, The Pied Piper of Hamlin, The Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty.

Auditions begin Thursday, April 1, with a special alumni night designated for returning performers (high school through adult) to audition by appointment only. Appointments for alumni night may be made by calling 746-8430.

Open adult auditions will then be held Friday, April 2, from 7 to 10 pm; Saturday, April 3, from 2 to 8 pm; and Sunday, April 4, from 1 to 5 pm.

Those auditioning for main stage shows should bring a picture and resume if available, prepare two Broadway show tunes (up-tempo and ballad) that show their range, bring sheet music in their key, and be ready to sing only their best 16 measures if necessary. An accompanist will be provided.

Auditionees should also be prepared to learn a short dance combination and to read from the script if asked.

All roles are open. Positions are unpaid and housing is not available. Show descriptions and cast breakdowns can be found at www.MusicalsAtRichter.org.

Specialty dancers are sought for featured choreography in Hello, Dolly! and State Fair, especially those with gymnastics, ballet and jazz backgrounds. Â A performer with stilt walking talents is also needed for State Fair.

Auditions for children ages 7 to 15 will be on April 3 from 10 am to 1 pm.

Youth casting for Annie, State Fair, and Fairy Tale Theater will only be considered at this time.Â Among the performers sought are girls for the title role and the other orphans in Annie; boys and girls for ensemble roles in State Fair; and boys and girls for the Fairy Tale Theater ensemble, which does not require singing ability.

Children auditioning for either of the musical shows should prepare an uptempo and ballad Broadway show tune. Those auditioning for the Fairy Tale Theater troupe do not need to sing, but should be prepared to read from a script.

In addition to performers, Musicals at Richter also welcomes volunteers from the area for backstage duties such as set construction, properties, costume coordination, and running crew; and front-of-house operations such as house management, ushering, and concessions. To add a bit more context: the adopted Borough budget was for just under $300,000 [https://boroughofnewtownct.gov/borough-of-newtown-budget-approved/]. $58,000 in legal fees (to date) means a significant cost must be shouldered by Borough residents and businesses, increasing taxes noticeably. Many of those pushing the lawsuits were not subject to the added costs because they do not reside nor do business in the Borough.

What’s Going On In The Borough?

Well said. Unfortunately, we are back to more of the same and we know how this will end. However, it gives us an opportunity to question many ways in which the DTC failed residents, voters, candidates, everyone. Brandon Moore was the first candidate to voice interest in running. A strong and well prepared candidate that the town republicans did not want to run against. They made it clear they wanted Ku to be the candidate. We all know you endorse the candidate you have no concerns about. Once Ku decided to try to unseat Bolinsky again, the DTC should have done what it can do and that was choose a candidate or put a good process in place to set up forums and get the caucus over and done smoothly, fairly, and ethically. It did neither. and this is what resulted: The Young Dem Debate became a Ku strategy to claim Ku being victimized, and it backfired; Ku's previous campaign committee went with Brandon Moore in hopes of finally flipping the seat; the DTC delay in organizing any candidate forums led to an inability to get the information out to all (as we see in complaints from new residents regarding lack of information); the DTC was severely split by the caucus chaos and some did not fully participate as a result; and we are back to square one with the candidate Alex Villamil preferred, and the same old guard and the same chance of flipping the seat.

Welcome and thank you for your insightfulness. I agree wholeheartedly, however, you will soon learn that the intention is to contain participation. I believe the new residents and the new families are invaluable and hope that you will attend a DTC meeting. You will learn a great deal. Connecting The Vote In Today’s Age

Mr. Ackert’s letter leaves out an important point: many of the legal expenses he references exist because of the legal challenges and complaints he and his facebook group has chosen to pursue. It is not fair to blame the Borough Zoning Commission Chair for costs that were driven, in large part, by Mr. Ackert’s own actions. Taxpayers should understand that litigation and FOIA complaints do not appear out of nowhere. They are initiated by individuals who decide to take those matters forward. Public officials should absolutely be held accountable, and the Borough should follow proper procedures at all times. But accountability should run both ways. If someone repeatedly challenges the Borough through legal channels, then points to the resulting legal bills as proof of poor leadership, the public deserves that context. Reasonable people can disagree about zoning decisions, development, and procedure. However, turning every disagreement into a legal fight has consequences, and those consequences are paid for by Borough taxpayers. Before assigning blame for legal expenses, Mr. Ackert should acknowledge his own role in creating them.
