Stolen Checks Lead To
Larceny Charge
Police arrested Jennifer Kwalek, 22, of Highland Road, Monroe, on a warrant at 8 am February 26, charging her with first-degree larceny.
Police said Kwalek allegedly cashed multiple checks that were stolen from a Newtown resident. The checks, which were cashed at a Newtown bank, totaled more than $50,000, resulting in a theft of funds, police said.
Kwalek allegedly cashed the checks between March and June, 2000, police said.
Police held Kwalek on a $40,000 bond for her February 26 arraignment on the charge in Danbury Superior Court. A judge released Kwalek on a $30,000 bond for a future court appearance.
First-degree larceny is a Class B felony.
