Mile Hill Road Bridge Closed This Weekend
The bridge on Mile Hill Road over the Pootatuck River at Fairfield Hills will
be temporarily closed to traffic from 6 pm Friday, October 3, through 6 am
Monday, October 6.
The bridge closure was scheduled in conjunction with the $3.2 million project
for the construction of a bypass road through the Fairfield Hills campus to
provide an east-west connector between Route 25 and I-84. The work is being
performed by Dayton Construction Company of Watertown under a contract with
the Department of Transportation.
The weekend closure of the bridge will enable the contractor to construct a
temporary bridge at the site. The temporary bridge is needed because the
footings of the existing bridge became unstable recently while the
construction company was digging footings to enlarge the bridge.
Work on the bridge was halted and the footings were reinforced so that it
could continue to be used until the temporary bridge is installed.
If there is inclement weather, the work will be postponed until the weekend of
October 10.
