James P. âShortyâ Maguire, Jr, 84, of Sandy Hook died July 18 in Ashlar of Newtown. He was the husband of Mary âMildredâ (Gross) Maguire.
Mr Maguire was born in Bridgeport on March 21, 1923, a son of James P. and Gilda (Negri) Maguire. He served in the US Navy during World War II.
A longtime resident of Stratford, he employed as a calibrator for Dresser Industries until his retirement. A resident of Sandy Hook for six years, he was a member of VFW Post 308 in Newtown.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, James P. Maguire, III, and his wife, Kathryn, of Sandy Hook and Thomas J. Maguire and his wife, Lora, of Newtown; and four grandchildren, Jamie, Michael, T.J., and Rachel.
Funeral services and interment in State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown will be private. There are no calling hours.
 Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
