Help So Many
To the Editor:
Once again Newtown has shown its community spirit by supporting those experiencing the life-affirming philosophy of Regional Hospice. On behalf of our board of directors, staff and the families we serve, we are deeply grateful to the many dedicated volunteers who annually bring the Newtown community together to support Regional Hospice. This year the Newtown Chapter Summer Breakfast, held on June 8, raised $23,000. We are so grateful to the generous individuals, businesses, and organizations who sponsored tables as well as the numerous local businesses who provided the exceptional raffle prizes. We also thank Newtown Lions Club, Newtown Savings Bank, TR Paul, and Union Savings Bank for being corporate sponsors of the breakfast.
All of the funds raised that morning were a tribute to the noble commitment of the Newtown Chapter members, including Marg Studley, co-chairman, Marie Sturdevant, co-chairman, Marilyn Alexander, Ellyn Gehrett, Colleen Honan, Janet Hovious, Judy Leko, Maureen Crick Owen, and Linda Trentacosta. The support shown by the Newtown community this past year helped make it possible for Regional Hospice to provide more than $600,000 in unreimbursed care, community bereavement support, professional education and community benefit. More than 550 people were cared for by Regional Hospiceâs clinical programs and 1,000 children, teenagers, and adults participated in The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families.
My thanks to the Newtown Fundraising Chapter and to the entire Newtown community for your abiding spirit of generosity and for making Regional Hospiceâs mission of care, comfort, and compassion possible in your community.
