Food Collection

A Success

To the Editor:

On Saturday, April 14, members of The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, held their first “Federation For Food” food collection at the Stop & Shop Supermarket, Sand Hill Plaza.

All foods were evenly distributed between the Faith Food Pantry and the Salvation Army Food Cupboard. Almost 600 items of food were donated by residents of both Newtown and Monroe, as well as two $10 Stop & Shop gift cards, two $25 Big Y cards, and monetary donations totaling $219.75.

The food collection was held to commemorate GFWC Federation Day 2007. The Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc, is one of 50 statewide clubs and one of more than 6,500 clubs in the United States and 20 countries dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. We are the largest and oldest women’s service organization, and support food pantrys, education, arts, conservation, women’s issues, health and many other civic projects.

We invited residents to come and “Help Us Help Our Neighbors” and they did! Thank you to Stop & Shop, Big Y, all the club members that stood outside on a bit of a blustery day, and to two “special women” who came by and donated so much food; Jennifer and Diana, you know who you are…thank you so much. We also want to thank The Newtown Bee for all of our publicity coverage.

Sincerely,

Jo Ann Bruno
