To Protect Watershed
WESTON (AP) â Nine communities will study forming a regional water authority to protect about 18,000 acres of open space that actor Paul Newman and others are trying to save.
The nine communities will share the cost of a feasibility study on buying the watershed land and water supply system once owned by the Bridgeport Hydraulic Co., which has been acquired by the British company Kelda Group.
âAs we prepare for the holiday season, we are working together to make preserving Keldaâs land a gift that protects the quality of life for our children and grandchildren,â Mr Newman said Tuesday.
The communities committed to the feasibility study are Bridgeport, Easton, Greenwich, Monroe, Newtown, Redding, Shelton, Weston, and Westport. Mr Newman lives in Westport.
