Seeking Entries For Wildlife

Art Show & Contest

BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo invites students in grades 9 through 12 statewide to enter its 9th Annual High School Wildlife Art Show and Contest. Entry forms are available by calling 203-394-6563, visiting BeardsleyZoo.org, or stopping by the Zoo’s Welcome Center at 1875 Noble Avenue in Bridgeport.

Artwork must be the contestant’s original, hand-made creation in the following media: watercolor, acrylic, tempera, charcoal, pastels, chalk, colored pencil, graphite or pen & ink. Artwork must be no larger than 24 by 24 inches (including mat), and may be matted but not framed. Only one entry per person.

Photographs and computer-generated artwork will not be accepted. No lettering or signatures may appear on the front of the artwork. Students may gain inspiration from photographs of wildlife, but they should not copy photographs or other images directly.

The artwork must be postmarked or hand delivered by 4 pm on Monday, April 9, Wildlife Art Show, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport CT 06610. A complete entry form must be signed and affixed to the back of the artwork (also available online or at the Welcome Center).

Judging will take place on April 21, and winners will be notified on April 25. First, second and third place winners will receive a gift certificate to a local art supply store. A People’s Choice winner, selected by zoo visitors, will receive a one-year Family Membership to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. All entrants will receive a one-day Family Pass to the Zoo that will be good for April 21, 2007.

All artwork submitted will be part of the Art Show in the Zoo’s Carousel Building from April 21 to May 19.
