Nunnawauk Meadows executive director Frank DeLucia was recently named

multi-family housing "Site Manager of the Year" (for the southern New England

region) by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Mr DeLucia, a former Newtown first selectman, was presented his award at a

surprise ceremony last Thursday. The award is intended to recognize managers

of Rural Development financed apartment complexes who have consistently worked

above and beyond their required job duties, helping to improve the quality of

life of their tenants.

"It's a humbling experience to receive this award," Mr DeLucia said. "I really

have to share this with the staff, which helps make this such a great place."

The executive director said his staff, along with the Newtown Housing for the

Elderly, seek to make Nunnewauk Meadows a reflection of the town and put it up

to the highest standards.

Rural Development assistant director William Gouzounis presented the award,

honoring Mr DeLucia for his dedication to making Nunnewauk Meadows the best it

can be. His accomplishments include securing grants for an alarm system,

ensuring apartments meet ADA guidelines for handicapped accessibility, and

initiating a summer concert series for the residents. He was given high praise

from many of the residents.

Mr DeLucia has been a member of the board since 1976 and has served as

executive director for the past 16 years.

Nunnewauk Meadows is owned by the Newtown Housing for the Elderly, Inc, a

non-profit corporation. Since the development of Nunnewauk Meadows in 1976,

Rural Development, which falls under the USDA, has provided Newtown Housing

for the Elderly, Inc, with $2.5 million in loans for the construction of the

120-unit complex.
