BRIDES: BRIDEFACTS -- The money worries of weddings
A full 86 percent of respondents to a survey said they were "very" or
"somewhat" concerned about planning a wedding on a limited budget. Still, 85
percent were planning a formal wedding.
When asked to explain why they were planning a formal wedding, 33 percent said
they had always dreamed of it, 66 percent said they wanted to "do it right," 9
said it was a great chance to throw a party, and 3 percent admitted it was
just a way to collect some gifts.
Many women respondents (66 percent) said they were worried about not being
able to afford their ideal honeymoon.
Nearly all couples in the survey were willing to go overbudget for some aspect
of their wedding: 38 said they would spend whatever it took to invite all the
guests they want, 30 percent were willing to splurge for an "amazing
honeymoon," and 16 percent said an incredible dress was critical.
Younger couples (in their 20s) are more likely to have joint bank accounts
than older couples.
