Schools Get Tech Grant

The Board of Education has been awarded a $108,000 competitive grant from the

state for technology infrastructure.

Newtown was one of 24 school districts that were awarded grants earlier this

week. Fifty-four school districts had applied.

"We worked very hard on this," said Superintendent of Schools John R. Reed on

Wednesday.

The superintendent said the money will be used to wire the middle school and

some of the elementary schools for technology.

The administration is waiting for word on the passage of a bill in Washington

that could change the nation's telecommunication regulations, part of which

could give the school system an additional $4 on every dollar it receives from

the state. That's more than a half million dollars.
