ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
This weekend, a perennial favorite band, THE NERDS, returns to Tuxedo Junction
in Danbury. The band will be at the Ives Street club Friday night. Also in
Danbury Friday night will be UNCLE WILL'S DOGS. The guys will be across town,
playing at Classic Rock Brew Pub on Wibling Road.
Now that the radio 104Fest is over, the individual bands that performed last
weekend's festival show in Hartford have gone their separate ways again. One
of the bands from that show, 2 SKINNY Js, will be back in the area on June 3
for an all-ages show at Tuxedo Junction.
A few shows at the Danbury club will highlight 80s metal during June. On the
4th, SAVATAGE headlines. The original violent femmes, VIXEN is in town June
18. And SEBASTIAN BACH, of Skid Row fame, will be in Danbury June 29. (He'll
be at Toad's Place in New Haven the following night.)
MOPPIN' SAUCE, a favorite 70s dance and funk band with members from around our
area, has its return date for Boppers in Danbury on the calendar in ink. The
group will be bringing its disco sound back to the Ives Street club on
Saturday, June 13.
The Webster Theatre in Hartford will host CHEAP TRICK on June 19. The concert
will be the 20th anniversary of the band's historic performance in Budokan,
China.
Also in June, STABBING WESTWARD will be at the club on the 3rd. Opening for
the band is FEEDER, returning to the Hartford location about three months
after their last visit. The band's new single, "High," is the first single
being featured off the new Jennifer Love Hewitt film, Can't Hardly Wait .
THE BLACK CROWES are returning to Connecticut, on June 19 at Toad's Place in
New Haven. The TUBES show originally planned for that night has been bumped to
August 7. Tickets for the Crowes show will be limited to four per person, and
are going on sale Saturday morning. The band has a new album ready for release
in the fall.
The Globe in Norwalk has been presenting shows on a fairly low-key basis as of
late. The latest show to have tickets being put on sale is a June 30
appearance by LIMP BIZKIT, still touring to support its Interscope release,
Three Dollar Bill Y'All$ . The band was last in Connecticut in February, when
it played at the recently-reopened Sting. Tickets for Norwalk are $13.50 in
advance. Call the Globe at 624-0088. Opening will be Cold, and another act
TBA.
Speaking of tickets, they're still available for the ANI DiFRANCO concert at
the SNET Oakdale next month. DiFranco will be in Wallingford on June 23 for a
7:30 concert. Those tickets are $25.50 and $28.50 in advance, and can be
reserved by calling the Oakdale box office directly (203/265-1501).
Also coming to the Oakdale this summer, among other concerts, will be JOHN
FOGERTY, June 28 (tickets $25-$39 each), and YES on July 1 ($28-$38). Fogerty
doesn't have an opener announced for his show; ALAN PARSONS LIVE PROJECT will
be there for a set before Yes. Like DiFranco, both of these shows start at
7:30. The line-up for Yes this summer is JON ANDERSON, STEVE HOWE, BILLY
SHERWOOD, CHRIS SQUIRE and ALAN WHITE.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
