SNAPSHOT JOHN WHITTEN

Occupation: Senior Project Representative for Fuss & O'Neill. I oversee the

sewer project here in Newtown. I've been here 2« years.

Family: I have a daughter, Kim Whitten, in Scottsdale, Ariz. She's a financial

planner. Prior to that, she was at the Connecticut state capitol as a staffer

for the state legislature.

Pets: I have a horse now, Skip. My dog died.

Hobbies: Amateur radio. And woodworking, I like to do that when I have time. I

like to make things with a lathe, like wooden bowls. I love to work with cedar

- it smells so good and looks nice with the red and white grains. I used to

make bookcases and plant stands.

Sports: Skeet shooting and horseback riding. I've been skeet shooting for over

20 years now. I belong to the Eastern Connecticut Skeet League; it's a winter

league. We shoot at different clubs in eastern Connecticut and one in Rhode

Island. My team shoots for the Hartford Gun Club in East Granby. I love to go

trail riding; it's quiet, peaceful. And I like to show.

Favorite food : Pizza with everything on it - "Garbage House Pizza."

Favorite television show: "The X-Files." Some episodes are really believable,

especially the ones on UFOs.

Organizations: Hartford Gun Club, I'm a trustee for the First Congregational

Church in South Windsor, Tri-state Horsemen's Association, American Society of

Certified Engineering Technicians, and National Institute For Certified

Engineering Technicians.

Favorite place outdoors in Newtown: I do like Fairfield Hills Hospital, the

open space. There's a lot of wildlife over there. I've seen deer, fox and wild

turkey. I counted 38 deer one night a year ago last fall.

What do you think of the townspeople here: There are a lot of good,

hardworking people who live in Newtown.

Personal philosophy: Leave things better than I found them, especially when

working with the land. [Also,] "Today is the tomorrow you worried about

yesterday."
