UPDATE: This year's event has been canceled. || Newtown Bridle Lands Association's 40th Annual Frost On The Pumpkin Hunter Pace will be held on Mount Nebo Road on Sunday, October 28; pace start times will run from 8:30 to 11:30 am.

Newtown artist Grace Scharr McEnaney is showing her watercolors at The Barn Gallery & Frame Shop this month. The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception at the gallery, 82 State Route 37 in New Fairfield, on Saturday, October 20, from 2-4 pm.

The Reverend Robert Chase, author and acclaimed interfaith activist, will facilitate a conversation on Wednesday, October 17, at 7 pm, at Newtown Meeting House. “Courageous Conversations In A Complex World” will cover how anyone can learn from changes that occur after transitional moments in their lives.

Newtown United Methodist Church and Newtown Parent Connection recently announced a new collaborative effort. The two entities will be hosting a pair of public programs in upcoming weeks, each focusing on the continued epidemic of drug addictions across the country.

On Sunday, October 21, at 2 pm, people from various faith communities from Newtown will be participating in the annual CROP Hunger Walk, a 2½-mile walk to support the efforts of Church World Service to overcome hunger and poverty within local communities and around the world.

For those who missed the opportunity to attend the 1964-65 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., or simply want to relive it, Newtown Historical Society will host a virtual trip on Monday, October 15, at C.H. Booth Library.  

The Escape Alive Self-Defense program, in partnership with Jane Doe No More, will be offered at Newtown Congregational Church on Sunday, November 4. Participation is free but limited to fifty women and girls age 15 and up.

As 2018 Newtown Arts Festival events continue into National Arts Month, master weaver Tina Puckett will be presenting a workshop at The Garage. All ages are invited to join Ms Puckett for the workshop at the town’s teen center on Saturday, October 13.

On Wednesday, October 10, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host Peter Seltzer, who will critique the work of SCAN members. The public is welcome, free of charge.

The next featured speaker for the Town & Country Garden Club, Ceil Rossi, will be demonstrating an art form that is new to many in New England: a three-dimensional art medium, the gourd.
