Kevin’s Community Center (KCC), Newtown’s free, nonprofit medical clinic, will conduct its 12th annual major fundraiser, Music, Merlot, and Mums, a community gathering featuring wine tasting, live music, and local fare, on Sunday, December 8, from 4 to 7 pm, at Newtown Country Club, 2 Country Club Road in Newtown.

Music will be performed by South Lake Jazz Trio. There will be an array of tantalizing wines to taste provided by Nick’s Chilled & Distilled. A silent auction will also be held, with such items as gift certificates from fine area restaurants and gift baskets, along with a ticket raffle for smaller prizes.

Tickets are $45 per person, and they can be purchased at the clinic, 25 Commerce Road in Newtown. They will also be sold at the door.

All proceeds will benefit Kevin’s Community Center Inc, a nonprofit, free medical clinic founded in 2002 by Dr Z. Michael Taweh and his family, in memory of his son Kevin. The mission is to provide free primary healthcare for persons over the age of 18 who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited financial resources.

Almost two years ago, thanks to years of support, the clinic achieved one of its major goals: the purchase of a freestanding medical building to better serve patients and the community.

The clinic is modest, modern, and fully operational, with a fundraising-dependent plan to fit-out the remaining 3,500 square feet of the building as community outreach and program space. That work will enable KCC to expand and deepen its offerings.

Kevin’s Community Center currently serves all towns covered by the Newtown Health District, which includes Newtown, Bridgewater, and Roxbury. The clinic is open Wednesdays, 1 to 5 pm.

The clinic also provides yoga, open to the entire community, on Saturdays.
