At the start of business at their December 19 meeting, Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) members reelected all three commission officers to a one-year term.

The shooting at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012, in which a gunman shot and killed 20 first graders and six adults, has spawned some lawsuits, which continued moving through the court system during 2019.

A development firm’s proposal to construct a gas station/convenience store at 13 Hawleyville Road (Route 25), which would be smaller than its previously proposed facility, which the Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) unanimously rejected in November, has drawn strong opposition from the residents who also opposed the earlier version of the project.

The year 2019 saw a range of multifamily housing projects proposed, approved, and also under construction in the town and borough.

Seven wheelchair accessible vans used by Ability Beyond to transport clients with disabilities to and from Day and Work programs were vandalized on Saturday, December 21.
