FISH of Newtown, Inc celebrates 50 years of serving the community this year.

Trick or Treaters were granted a reprieve on Thursday evening. Those who headed out early for Halloween enjoyed a break in the rain that had been drenching the region for much of the day.

The Newtown Marching Band & Color Guard hit a high note in its season on Saturday, October 26, when the group earned the title of USBands Connecticut Class IV Open State Champions after competing in the USBands New England State Championships at Naugatuck High School.

Although it was mild and sunny, midday Saturday, October 26, was a spooky time in Sandy Hook Center as parents brought seemingly hundreds of small children into the compact business district for some costumed pre-Halloween fun during the Ninth Annual Halloween Walk.

The next Flagpole Radio Cafe, scheduled for Saturday, November 9, will launch the cafe's ninth season. The deliciously energetic and ultimately cool Americana group The Slambovian Circus of Dreams has been tapped to be special guests that evening.

The Great Pumpkin Challenge was undertaken once again at Trinity Episcopal Church, to benefit The Hole In the Wall Gang.
