On Saturday, October 21, Newtown Congregational Church (UCC) will again host its popular Mississippi BBQ and Shrimp Boil dinner to benefit Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss.

Doors will be open from 5:30 until 8 pm for indoor dining at 14 West Street, with take-out meals available at 6 pm by prepaid arrangement.

The meal features Larry Whippie’s famous BBQ chicken and a “low-country boil” with shrimp, sausage, and potatoes, plus salad, roll, and dessert. Choice of beverage is also included for dine-in guests.

Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. All dinners may be ordered at rebrand.ly/back-bay-2023 or by calling 734-645-6909 or 203-426-9024.

The church members have lots of reasons for people to be supportive this year. The church is planning no less than two trips to support the Back Bay Mission needs in 2024. A college level trip is planned for January 7-13 and then the 2024 NCC Adult Work Group will travel to Biloxi for the week of February 18-24.

Each trip will provide essential experience for the volunteers, from house renovation work and the opportunity to serve in three of the mission’s ministries to learning about the work done on the Coast, exploring how similar work can be done at home, and growing in both faith and fellowship.

Back Bay Mission just celebrated its 100th anniversary of serving residents of the Gulf Coast city, with the commencement of several new projects during the past 12 months. NCC members are reportedly eager to continue supporting BBM and/or going on a mission trip.
