A quick moving snow storm moved through the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing with it very strong winds and leaving about an inch of snow in its wake. Below normal temperatures, according to the National Weather Service, have also remained in the area. 

UPDATE: The Snow Squall Warning has been extended by the weather service to 4:30 pm. || The National Weather Service has issued a Snow Squall Warning that includes Newtown in its coverage area. The warning is in effect until 4 pm.

All afternoon and evening Parks & Rec programs scheduled for Wednesday, January 30, have been canceled. An overnight ice storm left many secondary roads and surfaces coated in ice. Meanwhile, snow squalls and rapidly dropping temperatures are expected before nightfall.

Newtown Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, January 30, due to the weather. The announcement was made Wednesday morning.
