Newtown High School's girls' and boys' soccer teams both advanced to the South-West Conference North Division championship games with semifinal-round victories on November 12.

Scoring multiple goals in a short time span is nothing new for the Newtown and Bethel high school girls’ soccer teams. After playing to a pair of regular-season ties, the second of which featured two goals less than a half-minute apart in the final 1:04, the Nighthawks used consecutive tallies to put away the Wildcats in their playoff matchup on November 10.

Newtown High School’s boys’ soccer team completed the season with an unbeaten record at 10-0-2, concluding the campaign with a 5-0 triumph over Brookfield on November 5.

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team finished off its perfect regular season with a triumph over visiting Brookfield on November 4, then defeated visiting Abbott Tech of Danbury in the South-West Conference North Division Tournament quarterfinals on November 9, earning a spot in Wednesday’s semis.

Newtown High School’s field hockey team traveled to Pomperaug of Southbury on November 2 and outplayed the host Panthers for the bulk of the second half, only to fall short in a 3-1 decision on a chilly night. This was the first loss of the campaign for the Nighthawks, who previously defeated Pomperaug 2-1 in overtime.

The record heading into Wednesday’s scheduled finale against Brookfield is perfect, and Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team members have been pleased with how well things have gone despite the mandate to wear a mask during match play due to the coronavirus.

The goals kept coming — a season-best half dozen of them to be exact — and the wins continue to pile up as well as Newtown High School’s boys’ soccer team put together a dominating performance en route to a 6-0 triumph over visiting Abbott Tech of Danbury at Blue & Gold Stadium on November 3.

On the bright side, Newtown High School’s young, gaining-varsity-experience girls’ soccer team has lost only one game by more than a goal (a 2-0 setback to a veteran-led Immaculate of Danbury lineup); this squad has been competitive to say the least, and in every game until the end

Led by a pool record-setting performance by Brianna Deierlein in the 50 yard freestyle race, Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team defeated the Bethel-Immaculate of Danbury co-op 95-70 on November 3. Deierlein clocked in with a 50 free time of 25.06.
