Newtown High School’s cross country teams began the season with a pair of wins, defeating the New Fairfield Rebels and Stratford Red Devils on its home course, adjacent to Reed Intermediate School, on September 10.

With their backs against the wall and in need of three wins in one day, members of the My Place team put forth a valiant effort in the Newtown Men’s Sunday Softball League upper division playoffs at Dickinson Park on September 8.

Coming off a season in which it scored what Coach Stephanie Kearns believes is a program season record number of goals (last year’s Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) results show 64 cage-finders between regular and postseason), Newtown High School’s field hockey team is looking for even more.

Sure, Newtown High School’s girls’ soccer team lost just two starters to graduation from last year’s South-West Conference championship team and brings back what Coach Marc Kenney believes are arguably the best field player and goalkeeper in the conference.
