The Newtown Knights of Columbus and partners, including Newtown Youth & Family Services, made the decision on July 13 to cancel the Run 4 Hunger & Health for 2020.

Organizers issued the following statement:

“As our name suggests, the organizers of the Run 4 Hunger & Health puts a priority on the health and well being of our community in Newtown and the surrounding area. With that being our primary focus and the reason for this event, we have decided to reschedule the Run 4 Hunger & Health 5K to May 15, 2021, to ensure a safe environment for our runners and the volunteers.

“We hope and pray for an end to this historic pandemic and a return to normal life and activities as soon as possible. Please remain safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you in May 2021 to celebrate and have some fun.”

The second annual Run 4 Hunger & Health was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 16 of this year. In March, it was postponed to September 12.

Inaugurated in 2018, the event served as a benefit for FAITH Food Pantry. Proceeds came through entry fees and other donations ahead of the event. Participants were also encouraged to bring three canned goods with them when they checked in the morning of the 5K walk/run.

Justin Halmose was the top winner in 2018 and 2019.

For its third annual presentation, proceeds were to benefit FAITH and Newtown Youth & Family Services.

The 3rd Annual Run 4 Hunger & Health, which this year was to benefit FAITH Food Pantry and Newtown Youth & Family Services, has been canceled due to continued coronavirus concerns.
