HISTORIC DEERFIELD WILL CELEBRATE ENCAMPMENT WEEKEND FEB. 29

DEERFIELD, MASS. — Historic Deerfield will present a 1704 Colonial Encampment Weekend

February 29–March 2 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.

In conjunction with the 304th anniversary of the raid on Deerfield, Historic Deerfield will host a three-day commemoration of this seminal event. On Friday, February 29, the day of the anniversary, join descendants and community members to commemorate the French and Native Raid of 1704.

Walking tours of “Pocumtuck — A Native Homeland,” and “Deerfield — An English Settlement” will be offered this weekend, as well as guided and self-guided house tours, and demonstrations of snowshoe making and open hearth cooking.

On Saturday, learn about the historical context behind the raid during a presentation by Professor William M. Fowler, author of several books, including Empires at War: The French and Indian War and the Struggle for North America, 1754–1763.

Special admission is Friday, February 29, free; Saturday and Sunday, $14 adults, $5 youth (6 to 21), under 6 and members free.
