Another season on the tracks is just around the corner, and two young racers from town are revving up for all of the excitement coming off championship seasons at the Nutmeg Kart Club in Berlin.

Sandy Hook’s Kenneth Canfield Jr, 15 years old, won the 2018 championship in the Junior three division in his No. 33 car. He started racing when he was 6 years old, and this was his first championship. He will be moving up to the senior classes this spring and will be racing in two different divisions.

Newtown’s Kelsey Danuszar, 18, won the 2018 Championship in the Pro Clone Lites Division. She races the No. 19 car. Racing for 13 years, Danuszar collected her fourth championship at Nutmeg Kart Club, but her first in the Senior classes. Kelsey had multiple feature wins in the clone class and also placed third in the Animal Lites class.

With Canfield moving up to the Adult class in the 2019 season, Kelsey and Kenneth are looking forward to racing each other.

The season gets off and running in April, and these racers compete twice a month through October at the Berlin Fairgrounds. The karts can get up to 40 miles per hour on a dirt track.

Danuszar and Canfield both grew up in Newtown and went to Newtown schools until going to Henry Abbott Tech in Danbury. Danuszar graduated in 2018 and Canfield will graduate in 2021.
