Joy Cordia Scott, 80, of New Fairfield died peacefully at her home on Candlewood Isle, with her family by her side, April 11. Born August 24, 1933, in Frederiksberg, Denmark, to Kaja Johanne Madsen (nee Larsen) and Mads Peder Madsen, she moved to New York City as a child.

Her son Peder Winfield Scott, and daughter-in-law Melanie Ancin Scott, of Newtown; daughter Lisa Cordia Scott of Kennett Square, Penn.; daughter-in-law Linda Scott of Edgewood, N.M.; and seven grandchildren survive Mrs Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey Richard Scott; and her son, Mark Frederick Scott.

Mrs Scott studied at Putney School in Putney, Vt., and Simons College in Boston. After college, she married Harvey Richard Scott, and had twin boys, followed by a daughter.

The Scotts lived in Ridgefield, and North Salem, N.Y., before retiring to Chesapeake City, Md., where they enjoyed living near the water on their "High Knoll Farm."

Education was a lifelong passion for Mrs Scott. She was a nursery school teacher at the North Salem Nursery School for more than 30 years and camp director at Candlewood Isle Summer Camp until her death. She attended the Academy of LifeLong Learning through the University of Delaware in her later years, where she enjoyed learning and studying with her peers.

Known for her love of community and her contributions to her congregations, Mrs Scott was an active volunteer at the New Fairfield Thrift Shop, and a member of the Town Point Methodist Church in Chesapeake City, and the New Fairfield Congregational Church.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.
