‘The Hawley Star’ At Library Gala

The C.H. Booth Library Board of Trustees will preview its upcoming gala’s “star” attraction at the library August 31 and September 1. On display will be a host of artists’ decorative stars including the crafted piece by Daryl Zang.

Ms Zang’s piece carries a gold and burgundy color scheme similar to the decor in the old part of the library. Stenciled in gold-brushed letters are the words “Read Books.” It also includes a portrait of the library’s benefactress Mary Hawley and an outline of the Newtown rooster. Ms Zang’s star is titled “The Hawley Star.” Ms Zang is also a renowned artist and is the daughter of JoAnne Zang, who started the Library Friends’ Book Sale many years ago.

The library will be showing all the artists’ stars on the second floor of the library on August 31 from noon to 5 pm and September 1 from 10 am to 5 pm. Invitations for the gala will be available for patrons who wish to attend. Space is limited.

The upcoming gala will be September 29 at the Rock Ridge Country Club. Auctioneer Father Bob Weiss will auction off the stars. Proceeds benefit the library. Contact Mary Thomas with questions at 426-9696.
