Cub Scout Pack 170 of Sandy Hook is set to host an Ice Cream Social/Pack Registration event on Monday, September 15, at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street, from 6:45 until 8 pm.

The event will be an opportunity for parents and kids to enjoy treats and learn more about the year-round opportunities Cub Scouts provides.

In addition to registering new Scouts, current Scouts will be able to reregister for the 2014-15 Scout year.

Registration is $55, cash or check payable to Pack 170. For the optional subscription to Boys’ Life magazine, add $20 or $12 if new to Scouting.

Pack 170 Sandy Hook new and returning scouts must also bring a completed Boy Scouts of America Annual Health & Medical  Record form, available at  scouting.org. Only Parts A and B are needed. Copies of the front and back of the Scout’s insurance card will also be required.

Adults are also asked to consider helping the pack. If interested, contact Committee Chair John Gonski at 203-426-6011 or e-mail jjgonski@charter.net.

Although Pack 170 refers to Sandy Hook as its “home,” it is one of several Cub Scout units in Newtown. Its chartering organization (sponsor) is Newtown United Methodist Church. Although majority of the pack’s Cubs attend Sandy Hook School, any boy in grades 1-5 is invited to join the pack.

Scouts are recruited primarily in May and September, but one can join at any time.

Dens typically meet once monthly, and most often in a Sandy Hook School classroom in the early evening.  Pack meeting (when all dens come together) are the last Monday evening of the month, or during the weekends.

Visit shpack170.com for additional information and a calendar of events.

Additional information regarding registration is available by contacting Membership Chair Patrick Cooney at 203-270-7718.
