Interfaith Institute Will Focus

On The Importance Of Water

LITCHFIELD — The seventh annual Casagrande Interfaith Institute will take place at Wisdom House from 6 pm on Friday, October 27, until 1 pm on Sunday, October 29. The theme of this year’s institute will be “Water: A Blessing In Crisis.”

The weekend program will focus on water as an element significant to the spiritual experiences of many faith traditions. Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim perspectives will be represented.

Presenters will include Swami Adiswarananda, MA, representing Hinduism. He is a teacher at the Ramakrishna-Vivikenanda Center in New York City, and the author of The Spiritual Quest and the Way of Yoga.

Sohaib Nazeer Sultan will represent Islam. He is the Muslim chaplain at Trinity College in Hartford and Chaplain Fellow at Yale University.

Dr Ellen M. Umansky is professor of Judaic studies and director of the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center of Judaic Studies at Fairfield University. She is the author of From Christian Science to Jewish Science: Spiritual Healing and American Jews and will be representing Judaism on the panel of presenters.

The Reverend John H. Vaughan will represent Christianity. He is program director for The Twenty-First Century Foundation, Harlem, N.Y. , and former executive director of The Peace Development Fund at Riverside Church in New York City.

The facilitator for the weekend program will be Marie Chiodo, DW, a facilitator and designer of group processes. Included in the weekend activities will be an Saturday evening performance by the dance collective Kiva & Friends.

Contact Wisdom House for the complete fee schedule. Costs vary from $35 for the Saturday evening presentation only to $175 for the full weekend for a shared room or $215 for the full weekend, single room.

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center is an interfaith center presenting programs in spirituality, education, and the arts. It offers hospitality for group meetings and specializes in service to the not-for-profit community. The center is a ministry of the Daughters of Wisdom.
