SWC Tournament Pairings And Schedules Announced

South-West Conference tournament action begins for boys’ and girls’ soccer, field hockey, and volleyball this Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, and Monday, November 2. Newtown High School has representatives in each sport, two of which will host first-round games, with the other two going on the road.

The postseason gets underway on Friday, with the boys’ soccer team, the third seed in the SWC, hosting No. 6 New Fairfield at 3:30 pm in the quarterfinals. The winner moves on to face either No. 2 Joel Barlow of Redding or No. 7 Brookfield in the semifinals, at neutral site Weston High, on Monday, November 2.

Newtown’s girls’ booters, seeded sixth, visit third-seeded Weston in their tourney opener, on Saturday, October 31, beginning at 2 pm. The winner advances to play either No. 2 New Milford or No. 7 Bethel in the semifinals, at neutral site Barlow, on Tuesday, November 3, at 5 pm.

Earlier on Halloween Saturday, the sixth-seeded Newtown field hockey team is in action as the Nighthawks take on No. 3 Bethel for a quarterfinal round contest, at neutral site Immaculate of Danbury, starting at 10 am. Either Newtown or Bethel will take on the winner of No. 2 Immaculate of Danbury and No. 7 Brookfield in the semifinals, at neutral site Barlow in Redding, on Monday, November 2, beginning at 5 pm.

On the volleyball court, the Nighthawks, seeded fourth, will entertain No. 5 Pomperaug of Southbury in a quarterfinal match on Monday November 2, beginning at 5 pm. The winner moves on to face either top-seeded Barlow or No. 8 Bethel in the semis, at neutral site Pomperaug, the next night, starting at 7 o’clock.
