Scores From The Soccer Pitch

Youth girls’ and boys’ soccer scores from this past week are as follows:

Girls

 

U8

The Lightning Strikes 3, Lightning 1: The Lightning Strikes hit the net first on an unassisted goal by Becca Filiato. The Lightning quickly tied up the score on a goal by Erin Phaneuf off an assist by Anna Romano, however, two unanswered by Michaela Cosgriff put The Lightning Strikes out in front for good.  Great goaltending by Molly Sullivan and Elena Sughrue kept the Lightning in the game. The strong defense, however, of The Lightning Strikes led by Riley Burns and Siena Harper and goaltending by Alyssa Bailey preserved the lead.  Strong overall games were played by Emma Dinallo and Norah Kolb for the Lightning and Kennedy Cope and Caroline Drew for the Lightning Strikes.

Lighting 3, Lighting Strikes 1: For the Lighting, Elizabeth Teixeira, Catherine Teixeira and Katie Viselli all contributed unassisted goals.  Nicole Fisher, Rayna Toth and Meghan Delp all had excellent overall defensive performances.  Kristen Reisert played a nice quarter in goal. For The Lightning Strikes Olivia Cornett scored the lone goal.  Taegan Smith and Alyssa Bailey played well on defense.  Sienna Harper and Carly Decker played well on defense and Kennedy Cope played well in goal.

Warriors 5, Dynamo Kids 1: In the final game of the fall season, the Warriors found their offensive firepower and were led by two goals from Sophia Bajcer, a goal from Olivia Buchler, and scoring their first goals of the season, one each from Samantha Kuruc and Alexis Woods.  Katie Jones, Maggie Breault and Elizabeth Cassetta also pushed hard on the attack.  Defensively, Charlotte Branchflower, Maggie LaBanca, Emma Magazu and Katie Stan stopped many charges by the opposition. The Dynamo Kids showed great determination and were still pushing hard at the end.  Cameron Powers and Peri Meeker led the offense, while Katy Rowan and Anna Morosky did a great job on defense.

U11

Newtown Sparks 7, Ridgefield White 1: The Sparks scored double victory in their win over Ridgefield landing them in first place in their division for the fall season. The Sparks dominated the field with six goals in the first half led by Emily Celentano and Carly Swierbut with two and Veronica Vodola and Emma Curtis with one.  They moved the ball around the field in the second half allowing one goal for Ridgefield before Jackie Seras scored the tie-breaking goal.

Boys

U8

Sponge Bobs 1, Blue Lightning 0: Tanner Trede scored in the first half. The Sponge Bob defense was anchored by RJ Figueroa, Torin Kearney, JJ Kanaan and Ethan Paley who played great in goal.  Connor Dullinger and Cameron Petrelli both had outstanding all-around games. The Blue Lightning were led by Sam Staubley, with strong play on both ends of the field as well as in goal. Johnny Moxham’s ball handling and shooting were top notch. Connor Faxon had a blast in the third period that struck the goalpost that would have pushed the game into injury time. Cal Lucas showed excellent potential for next year on defense.  The team had its strongest offensive and defensive game of the season.

Blue Thunder 3, Team Four 3: In the last game of the fall season, the Blue Thunder played another solid game against a very competitive Team Four that never gave up. The Blue Thunder passed the ball around the field and played a great team game with many scoring chances from all of the players. The scoring was led by Markus Paltauf with 2 goals, the first assisted by Ethan Appiah with a great pass in the seam; the second was assisted by Michael Elston from a nice cross into the box. The final tally came off the foot of Colin Marshall with the assist coming from Markus Paltauf. Also playing very well up front were George Sandercox and JP O’Leary. At midfield, Calum Edmond and Drew Poseno made it tough for opponents to get by.

U10

Newtown Blaze 5, New Canaan Freedom 0: The Newtown Blaze kicked off with a strong attack game led by Harry Kelchner who was delivering a steady stream of great feeds to his teammates that resulted in an early goal for Newtown, and an assist on the team’s second goal scored by Thomas Armstrong. Eli Delp, Will Pelisson and Jacob Laros also offered steady support up front. Duncan O’Leary was a solid force at midfield. Kyle Duval and Ryan Beardsley teamed up to put another goal on the board each. With Ben Futterman and Justin Dethomas unyielding in defense and JP Ford guarding the net, Newtown went to the half with a 4-0 score. In the second half, Tristan Andrew and Jonathan Liberante kept the pressure on the New Canaan defense, and Kelchner came through with his second goal to finish the game at 5-0. Great playing and teamwork by all.

U12

Titans 6, Greenwich 0: Grant Larson scored the first goal, and Nick Weiland struck next. Aiden O’Leary had some good shots at the goal and Thomas Skrelja scored the third goal of the game. Wally Skrelja, Santy Forero and James Barden as defenseman let very little past the halfway mark during the entire game. Jack Armstrong did a good job in helping the defense as well. Jack Oltran scored the fourth goal with an assist by Thomas Skrelja. Michael Greenspan was the motor of the team during the game and Henry Petrillo did a great job of keeping the ball moving up the field. Christian Adam and John Finnegan did a great job as strikers by maintaining control of the ball, and Silas Decker worked well both on defense and at striker. Grant Moxam scored the fifth goal and Erwin Grewal scored the sixth and final goal of the game with an assist by Daniel Arneth. Goalie. JT Lewis did a great job of deflecting the few balls that were shot at goal thanks to a great job by the defense.
