How Long in Newtown: Seventeen years ago we lived on South Main Street, but now we live in Trumbull, one mile from my father’s family. That’s where Liz and I grew up. We were both in the same class in high school. I attended New England College in Henniker, N.H., a small liberal arts school. I have ADD [Attention Deficit Disorder] so I needed to learn at my own speed. Hands-on experience worked best for me, because I had such a problem with reading comprehension. The way I studied was to read, then underline, then transpose what I’d underlined to make a guide, then use the guide to study from. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn how to do that until college.

I got a business degree, and I was in the insurance and investment industry for a while. But I found out I did not want to do that. So I turned to hairdressing and never looked back.

Biggest Change You Have Seen in Town: I just hope Newtown doesn’t get overbuilt. I think it’s already getting a little too trendy. The town should bond a big land trust and buy up all the land before it goes to development.

Family: My wife Liz and I have two sons, Daniel, 17, and Matthew, 14.

Pets: We have a bichon frise named “Easton” and I grew up with a St Bernard.

Hobbies: I’m an active guy. I like skiing, golf, and doing landscaping at home. I have worked in construction, and I like building. I helped my father and my grandfather build the first Ricky’s Shopping Center. When that burned down, we rebuilt it and then we built this one.

Favorite Movie: I love the movie It’s A Wonderful Life because there is such an important lesson in there about how much effect your life can have on others. It’s my favorite, and I watch it every year.

Organizations: I’m a member of the Porsche Club of America and I like racecar driving.

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I remember going to the General Store as a boy. My father and my grandfather and I used to go to the Flagpole Luncheonette every day. You knew everyone in there in those days.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We go to our condo in Vermont near Mount Snow. It’s a year- round getaway for the whole family.

Personal Philosophy: I believe the more you give the more you get. I believe in helping kids through my school, as well as through the business upstairs. I try to help local kids through community service especially at Kevin’s Community Center. I believe you can make a difference if you keep on giving. I love my clients, but I really love the school.
