Virginia P. (DeVitta) Mead, 90, of Brookfield, died peacefully January 2. Born in Peekskill, N.Y., on June, 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Josephine and Michael DeVitta. She was the beloved wife of Stafford C. Mead, Sr, for 67 years.

Her husband; her cherished children, Stafford C. Mead, Jr, of Newtown and Virginia J. Webb and her husband, Ralph, of Holyoke, Mass.; her loved granddaughter and their husbands, Victoria and Jeremiah Noordhoek and Adair Virginia and Matthew Rivest; and the loves of her life - her two great-grandsons - survive her. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Maryann Rose, and her husband, William; and her brother, Francis DeVitta, and his wife, Nola. Her brothers Michael "Mickey" DeVitta and Philip DeVitta predeceased her.

A longtime resident of Peekskill before moving to Connecticut, she graduated from Peekskill High School.

Mrs Mead was a voracious reader, lifelong learner, and a beautiful artist. As a young woman, she loved the time spent roller skating with her husband and friends and going to Frank Sinatra concerts. She especially loved spending time with her family, raising her children, watching her granddaughters grow to lovely young women, and experiencing the births of her great-grandchildren. She was a pioneer before her time, employed as a pharmacist assistant at the Center Pharmacy in Peekskill and in a supervisory position at the Field Library in Peekskill.

Mrs Mead's funeral liturgy will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, on Monday, January 9, at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at the St Rose of Lima Cemetery columbarium.
